Precautions to Consider in Restaurants and Cafés During the Normalization Process

8 July 2021

As we enter a swift normalization phase after a challenging period, many of us are eager to return to our favorite cafés and restaurants. While legal pandemic restrictions may be lifted, the virus is still present, and safety precautions remain essential. Here are some measures you should consider to stay safe in dining spaces:

Social Distancing Still Matters

Social distancing is as important as ever, especially in crowded places where people are mask-free, such as cafés and restaurants. Be mindful to maintain adequate space between yourself and others, and opt for establishments that still prioritize spacing out seating.

Keep Up with Sanitizer Use

Hand sanitizers have become indispensable over the past two years, alongside regular handwashing and traditional hand sanitizers like cologne. Continuing this habit in the normalization period is essential. Ensure that cafés and restaurants provide sanitizer at entrances and tables for ease of use.

Opt for Digital Menus

Digital QR menus have replaced traditional printed menus in many places, reducing the risk of contamination from frequently handled menus. Whenever possible, opt for digital menus to maintain a contact-free experience. Many free QR menu options are available, so feel free to request a digital menu at any establishment you visit.

Avoid Pre-Set Tableware

In some restaurants, you may find pre-set tableware on your table. Even if these items appear clean or are placed face-down, it’s unclear who may have touched them beforehand. Ask for freshly delivered tableware from the kitchen for added peace of mind.

Limit Your Dining Time

While it’s tempting to linger over long meals and conversations, it’s wise to keep dining time to around 45-50 minutes for small groups. This helps minimize risk and allows for safer, quicker turnarounds in public dining spaces.

As we enjoy reconnecting with loved ones over meals out, let’s continue prioritizing our health and safety in these shared spaces.
